Landscape Poem for 2/19/13

Bridge

Brick-red soil stands on beige dust, carries
Blue air upon curved shoulders –
Tiers of earth and sky,
Nature’s cake,

Connects this barrenness
to distant heavens.

After Isabel's "My Skin Absorbing"

My Skin Absorbing

Sitting in a red clay mud pit,
in a bucket of lumpy paint.

Creation

After Isabel's "My Skin Absorbing"

Your baby fingers in a pool
Of blue made wind, crushing
Pungent ooze to paper.

Wrapped in gold, your palms
Released a bird, a molten treasure.

Brown and silver spattered,
And in a corner, your
Fingerprint.

Occasion Poem for 2/14/13

For You

my hands clothed
in pink glitter and paper-
cuts.

my gift of love,
and mess and sting.

Revised Image Poems

Winter Sun

Hidden behind a cloud,
A blank, white eye.

Old Sleeping Bag

Rolled, hidden
Beneath the bed like an
Aged memory
Of my mother's childhood.
The flowered fabric sleeps,
Pink daisies and
Black-Eyed-Susans.

 Untitled

Amber sweetness fading
To deep brown and bitter brew,
Half an inch of yesterday's tea.

White-Out

Phantom,
The music building veiled
By snowfall.

Plowed Snow

Smooth white and ridged
Shadows warring
Along the bank's speckled spine.

Harp

Red on black,
On white on gold,
Wood grain and harpstrings
Harmonized in my embrace.

After Amanda Irwin's "Flight", Revised

Flight

Your heart pumped gently under
the curvature of my ear;
wings beating, low and deep.

ringing.
smile fades to blank
emotion,

my mother,
pressing the phone
against her ear,

silent, she stares but
is unseeing,

I watch and wonder who
has died.

Image Poems for 2/5/13

Winter Sun

The sun
Hidden behind a cloud.
You can look straight into it, a blank
White eye.

Music

Words foreign, yet
Beautiful.  Allegretto,
Pesante. Words felt
But not spoken
Are music notes on a page,
Black on White.

Old Sleeping Bag

Rolled, hidden
Beneath the bed like an
Aged memory,
The flowered fabric sleeps.
Pink daisies and
Black-eyed-susans.
It was my mother’s
When she was little.

Untitled

Amber sweetness fading
To deep brown. Half an inch,
The tea left in my cup.

Laundry

Tumbled warmth, wine,
Teal and white. Towels
In need of folding.

White-Out

Phantom,
The outline of the music building
Veiled by the gray gauze
Of snowfall.

Plowed Snow

Small hill beside the snow-
Dusted path,
One side touched by sunlight,
The other by ridged shadows.
A snow-bank.

Harp

Red on black,
On white on gold.
Wood grain, harp strings
Together are harmonies.
